You can use the BackupBox to create ongoing image backups of PCs in your home or office network.

Remember: A fast USB connected hard disk takes about 1 minute per GB of disk storage to backup your PC system disk. If you are on a fast Gigabit Ethernet network it is even faster. However, if you are on a more common 100 Megabit Ethernet network, it takes about five times longer, or over 5 minutes per GB. Wireless networks are usually twice as slow as 100 Mbps Ethernet.

So a 100 GB system disk will take ~100 minutes on a USB 2.0 connected external hard disk, 500-600 minutes (10 hours!) on a 100 Megabit Ethernet network, and over 20 hours on a typical wireless network. It may be better to buy low-cost, smaller USB external hard disks or BackupBox units and directly connect them to your important PCs.

Also, it is a good idea to use an Even-Odd pair of BackupBox units for all mission-critical PCs, keeping one of the units offsite in protected storage and switching the units out weekly -- this simple strategy will satisfy most of the more stringent federal and state mandated data protection requirements for personal data protection.

Office Networking

Using the BackupBox with a Peer Server

or any LAN File Server

If you have a peer server ...

If you have an office network with a peer Microsoft Windows server (i.e., a regular PC that you use as a server for other users to get to files, printers, etc. you will probably want to have a system-level backup. The BackupBox was designed for this exact case, so all you need to do is identify the size of your peer server system disk and order a BackupBox of that size or larger.

If you want to use that same BackupBox for other client Windows 2000 or later computers in your network, you can. To set this up, you need to: (1) Identify the total size you need for all target client computers, (2) Order the appropriate BackupBox and software, (3) Install the server BackupBox unit on your peer server, and (4) Install the BackupBox client software on each target PC.

Please call us at (866) RED-PAWZ or (970) 372-1264 between 9 AM and 5 PM Mountain Time or email sales@redpawz.com and we will work with you to identify your exact requirements .

If you have a dedicated, non-Microsoft server ...

If you have an office network with a dedicated non-Microsoft server (i.e., a Linux or Unix server platform) you can put any Personal BackupBox (without the add-on BackupBox Server license) on that server, using it with multiple WIndows-based computers in your network.

To set this up, you need to: (1) Identify the total size you need for all target client computers, (2) Order the appropriate BackupBox and software, and (3) Install the BackupBox client software on each target PC.

Please call us at (866) RED-PAWZ or (970) 372-1264 between 9 AM and 5 PM Mountain Time or email sales@redpawz.com and we will work with you to identify your exact requirements .

If you have a dedicated, Microsoft server ...

If you have an office network with a dedicated Microsoft Windows server you can use the BackupBox to provide complete, automatic disaster recovery for both your server(s) and your Microsoft Windows-based computers.

Please call us at (866) RED-PAWZ or (970) 372-1264 between 9 AM and 5 PM Mountain Time or email sales@redpawz.com and we will work with you to identify your exact requirements .
